THE SCENE: 28 degrees, snowy. Long dark drive down from the north to the well to do community of Swickley, PA along the Ohio River. Not-a-sport fields and heated blockhouse restrooms greeted me. I bet the Pittsburgh HIMs were looking to do work in that festive gazebo, nope not today. Greeted by FIAB’s welcoming voice, not since October have I had the pleasure of sharing space with him. Uncle Rico was ready to roll.

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM: Your mind confuses lack of effort for inability.
Passage read from Hillbilly Elegy. The author came from Jackson, KY a member of an Appalachian Hillbilly family. He made it out of extreme poverty, chemical addiction, physical and mental abuse. One exert describes his time in the Marines. In bootcamp the author ran 3 miles in 25 minutes and was thinking highly of his accomplishment but was greeted at the finish line by a senior drill sergeant. The drill sergeant reamed him out making him do wind sprints until he collapses saying “if you’re not f*&%ing puking you’re not trying hard enough!” In the Marines, giving it your all is the only way. The author states; “I’m not saying ability doesn’t matter. It certainly helps. But there’s something powerful about realizing that you’ve undersold yourself and that somehow your mind confused lack of effort for inability.”
Don’t blame inability or lack of God given skills for your own laziness or lack of effort.
MOLESKIN: I look forward to posting with these HIM for a few more days and enjoyed the time spent with them. It would have been nice to run more sprints in between Rounds to break things up a bit. It only took one round for my patch to become thoroughly dethawed. Froggers would have been a bigger challenge than Mt. Climbers and a few of us could have bumped up the rep counts beyond 10. This would have been a lot harder with sandbags, rucks, or CMUs.
ANNOUNCEMENTS: New Year’s convergence coming up. FIAB mentioned a special workout. Prayer requests for Gambler’s family and M, Zorn’s safe travels, and the health of Runner Up’s M.
