The Advanced Toybox

Mosey around what would be our workout area loop


This was a Toybox workout, meaning we had slam-balls and jumpropes.  I Q’d a previous workout with a simplified version of this workout, and was hoping this more elaborate workout worked as well as the simple one.  I had really really big sheets with the exercises printed on them in different sections to make it easy on everyone.  The simpler one is probably better for larger groups, but for small groups, this one’s not bad.

We broke into two teams of three, and rotated through seven stages as Counters, Slammers, and Jumpers.  Counters did one of each of these before running around the workout area, thus becoming the Slammers, who moseyed around to become the Jumpers- 20 ‘Mer’cans, 20 Big Boy Sit Ups, 20 American Hammers, 20 Gas Pumpers, 20 Flutter Kicks, 20 Supermans, 20 Li’l baby crunches.  (I’m not certain anyone got all the way to the li’l baby crunches)

Slammers similarly had seven different moves to rotate through:  Squat Lifts with Overhead Throws, Stiff Leg Dead Lifts with Chest Pass, Squat with Oblique Throws, Lunge and Lift with Chest Pass, Squat and Curl with Overhead Pass, Knees Together Squats with Chest Pass, and Squat Lofts.  It’s not as tricky as it sounds.

Jumpers alternated Jumping Rope and Side Straddle Hops.

Nifty Shrimp arrived in the middle, changing us to one group of three and two groups of two (the duos skipped the jumping thereafter)  There was a sort of jumble getting everyone on the new arrangement, but it worked well enough.

With ten minutes left, we circled up to pass two slam balls of different weights in opposite directions, doing three burpees every time a ball was dropped.  The weights of the balls were changed after every drop.

Walked the loop around the workout area doing an overhead carry of either a Slam-ball or a hand weight.

Adversity adds to the Adventure.  When you’re having rough times, recall that it’s just a chapter of life and one day, it’ll make a fine story to talk about.
