During this time of thanksgiving, it is worth noting and being thankful for not just the peace we enjoy here in America but the longevity of it. In a sense this is a historical anomaly and not to be taken lightly. There have been various times of global peace throughout history: Pax Romana in the first and second century, the Pax Mongolica in the 13th, the Pax Britannica in the 19th. Historians have attributed the current global peace since the end of WW2 as the Pax Americana. In regional terms, Europe has labeled this era as “The Long Peace” given this unusually long (~75 years) silence of marching armies in that continent.
At this time, it is worth noting and being thankful for living in one of the few relatively stable and peaceful eras. We should never take what he have for granted. If history teaches us anything, we know peace won’t last forever.
