CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
“Do as I say, Not as I do” is a saying I have heard from my Dad several times growing up. It is a hypocritical statement where they are commanding someone to follow their rules, even though they, themselves are breaking their own rules. Challenged the PAX to lead by example with their actions. Actions speak louder than words and children look up to adults and often mimic their actions.
If parents smoke, their children are more likely to pickup smoking. If parents abuse alcohol and drugs, their children are more likely to do the same. If children experience domestic violence in their household, they are more likely to abuse their spouse.
On the contrary, parents who have a healthy dose of self esteem tend to raise children who are more confident. Those who achieve academic success will likely have children who follow their lead. Those who remain happily married will impact their children’s future relationships.
Be mindful of how you act in front of kids, especially in the following scenarios:
- How you express stress and frustration
- How you treat others
- Your diet and exercise routine
- How you deal with mistakes
They are always watching.
