CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
Talked about Lisa Damour’s recent book Under Pressure. She is a psychologist who studies adolescent girls. One of the major takeaways is that an adult’s response is more determinative for the outcome of a conflict than the actual conflict. Her advice: meltdowns happen, be prepared. She recommends a routine. Pour a glass of water. Turn on music. Pull out a coloring book. Do something to help the brain settle and for the student to get their focus (reason) back. Then move forward with the important conversation.

Jesus talks about as much about how we respond as anything else. Advice like “If anyone strikes your cheek” assumes conflict. Jesus teaches us ways to respond that keep anxious situations from becoming violent or toxic.
