GrowRuck 12:
The date has been finalized: 9/21-23. Put it on your calendars now, and let’s start training! This event combines a GORUCK Custom Tough challenge with F3’s Lead School, led by Dredd and OBT. Friday night will include some solid 2nd F action. Saturday morning we’ll do a bootcamp and F3’s Grow School (led by Dredd and OBT). Saturday night through Sunday morning will be the GORUCK Tough challenge, the quintessential CSAUP event. We sent nine HIM to Chattanooga last year for GrowRuck 05, and we all came home with stronger bonds as brothers, lots of personal lessons, and a greater appreciation of F3’s mission and vision. Toledo just had 97 start and finish GrowRuck 09. Our goal is to beat that number. Start training and headlocking now!

Slack Rises from GroupMe’s Ashes:
This Saturday (5/12), we’re migrating all internal #COMZ to Slack. GroupMe will be retired forever. GroupMe is a very simple tool, but can be overwhelming for people based on the number of messages and the inability to search message history. Slack will allow each of us to cut out excess noise and get only the information we want to see. You can keep Slack wide open and see everything (like GroupMe is now), or you can pare it down to see only the bare essentials (and anything in between). 

GroupMe’s “chats” will be replaced by Slack’s “channels” – these can be public or private. We’ll have a number of public channels (AOs, rucking, etc), but you can always leave or mute channels that don’t interest you. Like GroupMe, Slack is only for internal #COMZ; our external #COMZ (twitter, facebook, website) will remain unchanged. Those external tools are our official places of record, and will continue to have everything you absolutely need to know. 

It might take us a little bit to adjust and get used to Slack, but we believe it’s a more effective tool for our purposes. There’s a basic user’s guide linked below, and you can find all kinds of tutorials and tips via The Google.

5/5/2018 Service Project Preblast

We have a unique opportunity coming up to serve a great organization and support the work of one of the PAX. Service Over Self (SOS) exists to glorify God by proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ in underserved neighborhoods through home repair and leadership development. One way they do this is by hosting home repair camps for middle school, high school, and college students. The students stay at SOS’ facility on Poplar. 

On May 5th, they’re having a Spring Clean work day to get their facilities ready for the hoardes of volunteers that will be coming and going all Summer. Our very own Handsy is the Executive Director at SOS, and he’s looking for his fellow PAX to come help.

Army Physical Fitness Test:
We did the APFT twice last week. You’ve got two more chances: this week at the Morg, and next week at the Berm. We’ll do these tests twice a year so we can measure our progress. Check out the scores here

Gus Made a Bet Against YOU!
Our esteemed Nantan, Gus, really wants us to break our single day record. So he’s made a bet with the PAX. If we get 60 to post Monday, he’ll do 200 burpees in the sand volleyball court at the Sandlot. For every additional 10 PAX, he’ll add 100! Gus hates sand! But he loves F3! Make sure to post Monday, and bring everyone you know!

King of the Bluff:
We’re starting a new AO challenge this month. The first week of the month, we’ll have a King of the Bluff competition to see which AO can bring out the most PAX. Post at your local AO on Monday or Tuesday, and maybe you’ll be the first defender of the KotB flag.

Army Physical Fitness Test:
We’re all making great strides to being better and stronger men. One way to measure that is a periodic standardized test (just like in 7th grade!). We’ll be doing our first Army fitness  tests this week. The test includes 2 minutes timed push-ups, 2 minutes timed sit-ups, and a 2 mile run. We’ll do these tests twice a year so we can measure our progress. Come out to the Levee Wednesday or the Barracks Friday to set your baseline!
